RGO recognizes environmental protection as one of our guiding principles and a key component of sound business performance. We are committed to providing quality products and services in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy workplace for our employees and minimizes our potential impact on the environment. We will operate in compliance with all relevant federal, provincial and municipal environmental legislation and we will strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices in all we do.
Policy:
A. Integrate the consideration of environmental concerns and impacts into all of our decision making and activities.
B. Promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner.
C. Reduce waste through re-use and recycling and by purchasing recycled, recyclable or re-furbished products and materials where these alternatives are available, economical and suitable.
D. Limit the amount of greenhouse gases through use of low-emission technologies, driving less, carpooling or transit and use of renewable energy.
E. Vehicles and equipment are kept in good condition with up-to-date preventative maintenance, are not left idling unnecessarily. When fleet vehicles are due to be replaced, low emission vehicles or alternative fuel vehicles are purchased when it is economical and suitable.
F. Promote efficient use of materials and resources throughout our facility including water, electricity, raw materials and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable in order to limit the amount of materials that are used, left over as waste or transported.
G. Avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and products, seek substitutions when feasible, and take all reasonable steps to protect human health and the environment when such materials must be used, stored and disposed of.
H. Purchase and use environmentally responsible products that have been selected based on criteria including low toxicity or environmental hazard, durability, use of recycled materials, reduced energy and/or water consumption, reduced packaging and ability to be recycled, refilled or refurbished at end of life.
I. Energy conservation measures are used wherever possible. This includes shutting down equipment and overhead lights when not in use, use of energy efficient light bulbs, use of energy efficient technology and using equipment with the ENERGY STAR mark.
J. Water conservation measures are used whenever possible. This includes repair of equipment leaking water, use of a broom instead of a hose for cleaning purposes and education of employees on water conservation measures.
K. When activities may affect the local animal or plant population or habitat, a plan shall be in place to minimize any environmental impact to them.
L. Where required by legislation or where significant health, safety or environmental hazards exist, develop and maintain appropriate emergency and spill response programs.
M. Strive to continually improve our environmental performance by periodically reviewing our environmental policy in light of our current and planned future activities.
